Scouting for Food Update: Changes for 2020

The Greater St. Louis Area Council has made the difficult decision to forgo the traditional one-day blue bag collection this year in favor of safety and keeping to St. Louis guidelines on gatherings during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

After careful consideration of the rapidly rising COVID-19 cases, and to ensure alignment with the rapidly changing guidelines from health departments and political leaders, the leadership of the Greater St. Louis Area Council has made the decision to modify our Scouting for Food drive,” the council wrote on Facebook Thursday evening.

Instead, the St. Louis area council announced two other options for people to donate as we head into the holiday season. The need for food is greater than ever due to families experiencing COVID-19 hardships and shortages in local pantries.

WAYS TO GIVE:

Donations will be collected November 21 – December 13, 2020.

  • Donate by texting SCOUTFOOD to 91999 to donate directly to the St. Louis Area Foodbank. A $1 donation pays for four meals. Or, use this form via St. Louis Area Foodbank.
  • Drop off food items at retail collection sites in the St. Louis area – choose the closest to you via Scouting for Food’s interactive map. *These locations include several local Lion’s Choice restaurants, churches, police stations, grocery stores, and Dollar General stores.

Because of these changes, and our longtime support of Scouting for Food, Sunset has donated $1,000 to continue our 17-year commitment to this event. We are proud to continue our partnership in 2021.
