Sunset Transportation Earns C-TPAT Certification

Sunset Transportation joins an exclusive group of less than 1% of all U.S. logistics companies who hold Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) certification.

By working with a C-TPAT-certified 3PL, shippers are ensured their northbound cross-border freight adheres and is subject to U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) policies and procedures in over ten (10) different areas of risk and security by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

ST. LOUIS – Sunset Transportation, a Top 10, women-owned third-party logistics (3PL) company headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, is proud to announce our recently awarded Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) certification.

Only 0.78% of 14,302 3PLs in the United States are C-TPAT-certified, meaning Sunset thoroughly follows and maintains written procedures, protocols, and best practices that comply with C-TPAT recommendations and criteria.  This is part of Sunset’s ongoing commitment to our customers, carriers, and business partners to deliver elevated security levels and protect all cargo that crosses northbound into the U.S. from criminal activity.

In the past two decades, the northbound flow of cargo has increasingly been targeted by cartels to contaminate shipments that cross through the regular import channels, through all ports of entry.  Sunset is committed to preventing these acts.  By receiving C-TPAT certification, in select company of so few other qualified 3PLs, is especially gratifying for our cross-border teams in Laredo and Mexico.  We take very seriously the partnership with the CBP and C-TPAT measures we operate within.,” says Jose Minarro, Managing Director of Sunset’s Laredo, Nuevo Laredo, and Queretaro offices.

Implemented in late 2001 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, C-TPAT is a cooperative initiative between the U.S. government and businesses to elevate border security while maintaining an effective, uninterrupted supply chain.  Sunset Transportation employees, contractors, business partners, and visitors are held accountable to comply with C-TPAT practices, policies, and procedures.

“We place a high value on the measures and protocols Sunset has in place to protect our customers’ supply chains from nefarious activities such as human & drug trafficking, terrorism, the smuggling of contraband, and the transportation of invasive wildlife species. Qualifying and receiving C-TPAT certification confirms our commitment to the integrity of not only our customers, but our internal staff and operational practices as well,” says Lindsey Graves, President and CEO of Sunset Transportation.  “It’s a win for all involved.”

Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) voluntary trade partnership program in which CBP and members of the trade community work together to secure and facilitate the movement of legitimate international trade. The program focuses on improving security throughout the supply chain, beginning at the point of origin (including manufacturer, supplier, or vendor) through a point of distribution to the destination. C-TPAT member companies agree to implement certain security procedures throughout their supply chains to protect those supply chains from terrorist infiltration and other illegal activities that threaten the security of the United States.
